Hi, my name is Allison Withers. I’m a fully qualified counsellor and a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP).

I offer a warm and collaborative space where you can talk freely and feel truly heard. Finding the right therapist can feel daunting, especially when you’re unsure where to begin. Taking this step is courageous, and I want you to know that you don’t have to face things alone.

Together, we’ll explore your thoughts, emotions, and behaviours to help you better understand yourself and gain control over your wellbeing. My core approach is person-centred, which means our sessions are led by you and focused on what matters most to you. Alongside this, I draw on Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Psychodynamic Therapy, and Emotionally Focused methods to tailor each session to your individual needs.

CBT can be especially effective for understanding how your thoughts influence your emotions and actions. I will help you identify unhelpful thinking patterns and replace them with more balanced, compassionate ways of responding. Whether you’d prefer short-term, solution-focused work or longer-term exploration, I’ll adapt the therapy to suit your goals and pace.

Background and Experience

Before becoming a counsellor, I worked in corporate customer services, where I developed strong communication and listening skills that now enhance my counselling practice. Over time, my interest in people and emotional wellbeing led me to work with Mind, Place2Be, Citizens Advice, a domestic abuse charity, and an addiction rehabilitation centre, where I supported individuals from a wide range of backgrounds.

These experiences deepened my empathy and strengthened my belief that, with the right support, everyone has the capacity for healing and growth.

I’ve also worked with clients facing a variety of emotional and personal challenges, including anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues. My background in both corporate and charitable sectors has given me valuable insight into the pressures of modern life and how they affect emotional wellbeing.
