My name is Andrew Allan. I’m a fully qualified and experienced Psychotherapeutic Counsellor based at CBT and Counselling Sevenoaks practice. I hold an Advanced Diploma in Psychotherapeutic Counselling and a Diploma in Counselling Skills and Theory.
During our sessions, I provide a safe space for you to talk about whatever is on your mind. It is common to struggle to identify exact issues or perhaps you feel overwhelmed by the number of things you would like to address. Rest assured, I will help you make sense of how you are feeling and we work at a pace that you are comfortable with. You may equally be concerned that your problems seem trivial. I will support you regardless of whether your issues feel big or small.
I am an integrative therapist, which means that I might use a variety of approaches to meet your specific needs. For example, we might explore whether negative thought patterns are contributing to your issues and, if so, I can introduce you to some Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) tools to help you with this. Early on in our work together, we will explore your personal history, including childhood, if you are happy to. This is because the challenges we have now are often influenced by our past. However, I appreciate that delving into personal history can be challenging, so I approach this with sensitivity and flexibility.
Although my priority will be to put myself in your shoes, I will also play an active role in helping you work through problems and dilemmas. Perhaps I may challenge you too, but in a way that is always gentle and supportive.
The best results are achieved when we work together. Your questions and feedback are always welcome and I prioritise transparency and open communication throughout our sessions.
Ethical Standards – I adhere to the highest professional standards set forth by NCPS and BACP, I maintain strict adherence to their ethical guidelines. Furthermore, I prioritise ongoing supervision and Continual Professional Development (CPD) to continuously enhance my skills and knowledge. This commitment ensures I provide the best quality service and support throughout our therapeutic journey.
Before embarking on my counselling career, I gained valuable experience working in a government department. This opportunity allowed me to interact with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultures, providing me with a broader perspective and a deeper understanding of the world we live in.
My passion for counselling was ignited during my time as a volunteer at Samaritans. It was a profoundly fulfilling experience to offer support to individuals at their lowest ebb. This involvement taught me the significance of active listening and empathetically stepping into others’ shoes. In my opinion, these qualities form the foundation of being an effective counsellor.
By combining my professional background with my personal experiences, I bring a unique blend of real-world understanding and compassionate support to my counselling practice. I am committed to creating a safe and non-judgmental space for individuals from all walks of life.
Ethical Standards – Adhering to the highest professional standards set forth by NCPS and BACP, I maintain strict adherence to their ethical guidelines. Furthermore, I prioritise ongoing supervision and Continual Professional Development (CPD) to continuously enhance my skills and knowledge. This unwavering commitment ensures that the service I provide to my clients is of the utmost quality, enabling me to offer the best possible support throughout our therapeutic journey.
