More From Michaela
My name is Michaela Flury and I am a fully qualified, Pyschotherapist, ‘Integrative Counsellor’ and ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapist. I’m an accredited member of the BACP (British Association of Counsellors & Psychotherapists) .
I specialise in ‘Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy’ (REBT) which is a type of of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT). REBT is an action-oriented approach which will help you deal with any irrational beliefs you may hold, so you are able to manage any emotions and behaviours associated in a more calm and rational way.
Being trained in Integrative Counselling means that I am able draw upon several different approaches during my work. Therefore, tailoring the sessions to suit your individual needs. Aside of finding an understanding of where any problems many have begun. I will then help you move forward more positively using more practical approaches, such as cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT)
I am also a qualified NLP (Neuro Linguistic Programming) practitioner. Which is a way of understanding how people organise their thinking, feeling, language and behaviour to produce the results they do. I will then help you bring about change to achieve a desired outcome
In addition to this I am a trained ‘Timeline Therapist’ which is a type of therapy that works with your linear timeline and accessing your unconscious mind. This is because store emotions such as anger, anxiety, guilt or shame within our internal memory system. Therefore, together we can address any difficult emotions and limiting self-beliefs. As a result, more positive outcomes will be enabled.
Experience
My experience comes from working within GP practices for the NHS – IAPT (Improving Access to Psychological Therapies) service. I have worked with people suffering with depression, anxiety and relationship difficulties. I also have experience with gender identity, disordered eating, work related issues, loss and addiction. Alongside being trained in trauma therapy and specialising in working with survivors of sexual abuse, assault and rape.
Counselling for adults
I consider myself warm, approachable and non-judgemental. I offer a confidential and safe space so you will be able to explore any emotional difficulties you are facing. We will work together to elicit change, so you are able to move forward more positively and achieve your personal goals.
You will gain insight into aspects of yourself, to better understand your thoughts and feelings. In turn, it will help you recognise why certain others or situations may affect you in the way they do. Therefore, empowering you to make the required changes to achieve a desirable outcome.
Counselling for young people
Young people already have to cope with many stressors in everyday life. However, sometimes other problems such as loss, bullying or relationship difficulties can lead them to feel overwhelmed and unable to find a solution.
I work creatively, using play therapy, art and writing, depending on their age. This will allow them the opportunity of self-discovery. I keep the therapy fresh and fun, whilst allowing the young person space to talk about what is troubling them.
Together we work to build resilience. By giving them the tools to enable them to better cope with any challenges they may be facing, now or in the future. I will support them so they are able to be express themselves more effectively. By empowering young people to make decisions, they will feel better equipped to cope with change and making life choices in the future.
I am experienced in working with young person gender identity, disordered eating and health related issues. Alongside OCD and self-harm.
Ethical standards
I’m an accredited member of the BACP I subscribe to their code of ethical standards. I hold professional indemnity insurance and have regular supervision.
