Cognitive Behavioural Therapy Ashford (Egerton)

My name is Lynn Garbutt and I’m an experienced therapist based at CBT and Counselling Kent’s Ashford (Egerton) practice. I am qualified in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) for adults, specialising in ‘Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy (REBT)’ which comes under the CBT therapy umbrella. I undertook my diploma in REBT at ‘The College of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy’- Regents University, London.

I’m proud to offer a warm, confidential and supportive environment. In order to help you explore your concerns and establish what might be stopping you moving forward. I consider myself sincere, practical and encouraging. My aim is to help you understand the relationship between  your beliefs, feelings and thoughts,. Because they will be having an effect on your emotional well-being.

I will take an active role in helping your with your particular concerns. My approach is based on empathy and understanding and the belief that you are the person who knows the most about your own experiences. It’s important to consider you as a whole person in order to properly understand you. I will work with you to help you make sense of any overwhelming problems you might have by breaking them down into smaller parts to bring about positive change.

My Background

My career began as a tutor teaching literacy and numeracy within Adult Education and the prison service. It was here that I gained valuable experience teaching both young adults and mature students. I soon realised that students often needed further support to overcome barriers which prevented them learning effectively. Issues such as – anger, low self-esteem, stress and/or a lack of confidence.  It was during that time that I became interested in CBT and that this type therapy could help students with their barriers to learning.

I also have experience working on a voluntary basis with The ‘Silver Line’ charity – a befriending service helping people to combat loneliness. This means supporting people of different ages and walks of life who found themselves lonely and isolated for a variety of reasons.  Particularly when they had a significant life change. I’m also a ‘Silver Line’ trainer working with new volunteers to become ‘Silver Line’ befrienders like myself.
