    About Michaela

My name is Michaela and I am a warm, approachable, and non-judgemental therapist. I recognise that seeking support can be a significant step, which is why I offer a confidential and safe space to explore the emotional difficulties you are facing. My goal is to create a compassionate environment where we can work together to elicit change, empowering you to move forward more positively and achieve your personal goals.

I trained in both Cognitive Therapy and REBT, designed to help you identify and challenge negative automatic thoughts and irrational beliefs, allowing you to manage your emotions and behaviours in a calmer, more rational way. By gaining insight into your thoughts and feelings, you will begin to recognise why certain situations affect you and how to navigate them more effectively.

In addition to CBT, I am an Integrative Counsellor, meaning I can draw upon several different approaches and tailor our sessions to your unique needs. Whether we are focusing on practical problem-solving or understanding the root of a challenge, my aim is to help you build resilience and develop healthier coping strategies for the long term.

I work more creatively with young people, using methods like play therapy, art, sand-tray, and writing to facilitate self-discovery. By making therapy engaging and supportive, I help younger clients express themselves more effectively and equip them with the tools needed to face life's challenges with confidence.

    Background & Experience

I am a fully qualified BACP Accredited counsellor/psychotherapist and supervisor. I have 12 years clinical experience which includes working within the NHS IAPT service, private practice and a specialist organisation working with sexual trauma.

I have extensive experience assisting clients with a wide range of concerns, including anxiety, depression, trauma, PTSD, grief and loss, anger, over-whelm, self-harm, OCD, ADHD, ASD, gender identity, work or school related stress and addiction.

In my practice, I integrate counselling/psychotherapy and coaching through specialised techniques such as Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) to understand how thoughts and language influence behaviour, I work with the unconscious mind to address stored emotions like anger, guilt, or shame, helping to resolve limiting self-beliefs and enable more positive outcomes.

    How I Can Help

I will help you to explore your difficulties through listening and asking questions to get an understanding of how I can help you. We can then work towards your aims and goals for therapy.

We will develop practical tools and healthier coping strategies to help you to better manage your thoughts, feelings and bahaviours.

I will provide a safe space to process your thoughts, feelings, behaviours and experiences using evidence-based trauma-informed approaches where appropriate.

We will work together to build self-awareness, resilience and self-esteem to better navigate life's stressors and improve relationship with self and others.

I will draw upon a variety of therapeutic techniques to address deep-seated emotions such as guilt, shame, blame and anger.

We may explore creative therapeutic methods to support both adults and young people to express themselves, hold good boundaries and make positive life choices.
