Online Therapy
Hello, my name is Denese MacDonald and I’m a ‘Person-Centered’ therapist providing online therapy for CBT and Counselling Kent.
I have over twenty years of experience working with both individuals and couples, from a variety of backgrounds and cultures. I hold a Master’s Degree in Counselling and I am a registered member of the BACP (British Association for counseling and psychotherapy). This means my practice is informed by the professional standards and ethics of this association.
As a counsellor who works from a Person-Centred approach, means that my work meets you where you are. I will seek to understand your experiences from your perspective. Your areas of dissatisfaction, your stressors and your aspirations for change.
I am also trained in ‘Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) ‘Interpersonal Therapy’ ‘Imago Therapy’ and ‘Solution Focused Therapy.’ Therefore, I may draw upon these various approaches and work in an integrative way to help you to move forward more positively.
My approach during online therapy
At the start of our first session, I will ask you what has brought you to counselling and what you hope to achieve or change. That is if you know. If not, that’s not a problem. I will help you find clarity in order to fully understand what is troubling you.
Together, we will work on the hopes you hold for your counselling work and the realisation of any goals you have identified.
Through purposeful dialogue and acknowledgment of your experiences, I will support you in seeking understanding of any problematic areas. I will then help you clarify your thinking, so you are able to find new perspectives and more helpful behaviors going forward.
My aim is to support you whilst you face your challenges and help you identify any barriers to the change you seek.
I am experienced in problems such as anxiety, depression, and anger. Along with any unfinished emotions stemming from childhood. I have also worked with people recovering from toxic relationships and self-esteem issues. I’m also experienced in working with neurodiversity, which ncludes conditions such as autism, dyslexia, and dyspraxia.
Ethical Standards
I work within the BACP’s Code of ethical practice. Alongside undertaking regular clinical supervision to ensure good working practice. I also have continued professional development to enhance my skills and safeguard the people I work with.
