Hi, I’m Nik and I’m a fully qualified Integrative Therapeutic Counsellor based at CBT and Counselling Canterbury. I’m a registered member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP). I have over 20 years experience and specialise in supporting adults from all backgrounds, ethnicities, and sexual orientations with any type of problem.
Starting therapy can feel daunting for some people, whether it’s your first time or you’ve had therapy before. However, it’s important to remember, at some point in life, we all encounter challenges that can feel overwhelming. These struggles may stem from recent events or unresolved issues from the past. Counselling provides a supportive space to explore what’s troubling you, gain clarity, and take proactive steps toward restoring your emotional balance and well-being.
Being an Integrative Therapist simply means I draw un a variety of different therapeutic approaches that are most effective for your unique situation. I may combine, aspects of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) Gestalt Therapy and Transactional Analysis. This approach allows me to respond to your individual needs with versatility, breadth and creativity.
I began my journey as a therapist over twenty years ago. Before training as a Counsellor, I worked as a Clinical Hypnotherapist in both GP surgeries and private practice. Much of this involved GP referrals for patients needing support beyond what medical care alone could provide. Many were feeling overwhelmed by aspects of their lives, which was having a significant impact on their emotional well-being. During this time, I gained extensive experience working with a wide range of issues.
As my practice evolved, I became increasingly interested in integrating counselling techniques into my hypnotherapy work. This led me to train as a Counsellor, and I quickly realised that counselling felt like the right path for me. I was drawn to its depth, the self-awareness it fosters, and the emotional balance it helps people achieve.
This journey of learning and self-discovery confirmed my passion for counselling, and I made the decision to focus solely on this approach. That decision has brought me to where I am today—helping indviduals navigate life’s challenges with compassion, understanding, and effective therapeutic support.
